Named Accountable GP

All Patients of Priory Gate now have a named accountable GP. The named GP is largely a role of oversight, with the requirement being introduced to reassure patients they have one GP within the practice who is responsible for ensuring that this work is carried out on their behalf. Drs Tyrrell, Kelly and Woods  undertake the bulk of this role, however please ask at Reception if you do not know who your named accountable GP is.

Cancelled or Did Not Attend Appointments

If you are unable to attend an appointment at Priory Gate please contact us at the earliest opportunity to enable the appointment to be made available to other patients.  The cost to the NHS for one week of missed appointments is usually around £2000.

IMG_1197Where are we?

Priory Gate Practice is at 2 Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry CV1 4FS.

We are located on the first floor of the City of Coventry Health Centre, one of the most modern and well-equipped health facilities in the region. Our splendid £22.4 M building was designed to offer new models of care in a community setting, bringing together a variety of health professionals under the same roof and has been nominated for numerous design awards.

We are in the heart of Hillfields, a short walk from Coventry city centre, and easily accessible by road.

There is copious onsite secure parking

The practice serves a fascinating and diverse population of approximately 7000. Some of our older patients have been  registered with the practice since the National Health Service was founded in 1948.

Who are we?

We are a small and friendly practice team. There are three partners: Dr Andy Beaumont, Dr Helen Tyrrell and Dr Claire Kelly. Drs Tyrrell and Kelly are our main training doctors.

We are proud to have been recognised as a training practice for over 20 years and have trained many local GPs. All the clinicians are involved in training junior doctors. Specifically, Dr Beaumont is Educational Supervisor for Foundation doctors.

What you can expect IMG_1198

You will be valued as an important part of the practice team, with the opportunity to explore all aspects of primary care in a busy and stimulating environment. You will have a spacious, modern and well equipped consulting room. Senior doctors will always be available for advice, support and supervision.

You will have a carefully planned induction, shadowing members of the team and learning to use our computerised medical records (EMIS Web) and paper-light sytems. Registrars will have at least two hours of protected teaching time each week, with the content linked to your learning needs. The tutorials will include video analysis of your consultations. The videos are made with full patient consent and are deleted after use. Teaching will cover a wide range of clinical topics and we also provide opportunities to learn about business management.

"I have had a really great time at Priory Gate Practice. It have been been my most enjoyable placement so far.
I have found the clinical support at the practice far better than anything I have experienced before. I am allowed to work independently wherever my knowledge and skills allow but there is always help and support available where I need it and I never feel pressured to not use this support.
All of the staff at Priory Gate have been kind and friendly to me. I especially enjoy the Friday meeting which is
important for learning and also incorporates social aspects. All doctors have been keen to teach and give really helpful constructive feedback to allow improvement.
I feel the facilities are excellent. It is nice to be surrounded by such a modern and comfortable environment."
 JW FY2 December 2013

"  Friendly and approachable staff who made me feel welcome from the get go, in part due to the weekly team meetings, where we not only discussed practice issues but got to learn about each other also, developing a sense of community.

All senior members where readily available during my rotation to discuss clinical issues no matter how trivial they may seem.

A safe learning and supported working environment, where mistakes were highlighted and discussed as learning tools, rather than held against the individual.

Not a 'typical' GP setting, purpose built modern building allowing for easier investigations etc. and a broad demographic which although can be challenging will help develop communication skills and presents with a wide range of pathology and social issues to further aid broad clinical learning.

  Many audit opportunities.

Senior staff willing to help progress eportfolio"
